A fire broke out in Samherji´s fishmeal plant in Grindavík yesterday afternoon, workers were not in danger. The housing suffered considerable damage but a part of the machinery seems to be undamaged.
At this moment it is clear that the factory will not be operated in the near future but we are looking towards the busiest period for fishmeal- fish oil-, and frozen roe production. The Company has both property- and business interruption insurance.
The fire will have a negative effect on the company’s pelagic fishing and roe processing and consequently the company’s return in the first three months of the year. It is, at this moment, not possible to estimate the extent of the impact but by securing the roe processing in Grindavík the effect could be reduced.
