Samherji sells the fishmeal plant in Grindavík

Samherji Ltd. has finalized a sale of its fishmeal plant in Grindavík to Síldarvinnslan Ltd.  The factory was damaged  by fire last February and has not been in operation since then.

Samherji has been in business in Grindavík for many years and the factory had prior to the fire been renovated, both premises and equipment.

“We have been looking at future prospects for this operation since the fire in the factory.  After thorough reviewing we have decided to sell the factory to Síldarvinnslan, which already runs five fishmeal plants in Iceland.  Samherji owns a significant share in Síldarvinnslan and will in that way be connected to the operations.  It is also our intention to keep on operating the roe processing in Grindavík,” says Þorsteinn Már Baldvinsson, Director of Samherji.

The damage from the fire has not yet been finalized but we estimate the profit from the sale to be at least 400 million ISK.  It is on the other hand difficult to estimate the impact in the long run but the Companys revenue and contribution margin will be somewhat effected by the sale.
