The President of Iceland visits Samherji

Mr. Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson and his wife Mrs. Dorrit Moussaieff  visited Samherji today.  The reason for the visit was the granting of The Presidents of Iceland´s award to Samherji, last spring.  Along with the President and his wife were members of the award´s dispensation commitee and reprentatives of the Trade Council of Iceland.  The guests were well greeted by Þorsteinn Már Baldvinsson, Director of Samherji, Kristján Vilhelmsson, Managing Director of ships operations and almost 200 other empoyees of Samherji. 

 

The President and his enteourage visited the freezing plant Snæfell in Dalvík, where the production was inspected and the people at work were greeted.  The group then  boarded  Akureyrin EA in Dalvík harbour and Guðmundur Freyr Guðmundsson Captain showed them around the ship. A formal reception was held in Snæfells packing hall, where the workers had all gathered together for a buffet. Mr. Ólafur Ragnar and his enteourage were welcomed by Þorsteinn Már on behalf of the company and employees. The President addressed all present and expressed his pleasure of having the opportunity to visit Samherji and especially to meet the workers that were not able to be present at the award ceremony last spring. 

The group then headed for the prawnfactory Strýta in Akureyri where the President and his enteourage received just as a warm welcome as in Dalvík.  They walked trough the premises, were introduced to the employees and finally everybody enjoyed some refreshments.
